Essentially there are three main ways to shingle a roof valley.
To shingle out of the valley with laminated shingles lay a shingle down as a gauge and mark the corner at the bottom left and top right of the roof.
I then move the shingle to the uppermost course on the roof plane line up the mark on the shingle with the valley center and again mark the corner.
Experts recommend that you give yourself 8 to 10 inches of clearance on each side of the valley.

Also apply cement to attach the top layer shingles to each other see steps 5 and 6 in open metal valley above.
Apply two beads of roofing cement to attach the top layer shingles to the bottom layer shingles.
Clip the top corner of shingles along valleys to keep water flow toward center of valley.
