Air or kiln dried siding that has been kept dry can be installed immediately. Damp siding should be allowed to acclimatize from three to five days dry knotty cedar siding for 7 to 10 days and green siding for a minimum of 30 days. Do not nail through overlaps. For the beleveld lap siding we used flood cwf on the rough side facing out. The single course 90 long profile minimizes waste during installation especially around dormers and peaks.

Allow a 1 8 inch expansion gap between pieces if the siding is air or kiln dried. Moisture can however seep into joints where two vertical. Lap siding can be installed horizontally or vertically. The boards were pre coated on all other sides before installation.

Ordinary rough sawn boards are best installed as vertical siding which ensures that moisture will not collect on horizontal surfaces. Ensure joints meet on studs blocking or furring strips with the nail penetrating solid wood at least 1 1 4 inches. Install corner trim on all corners typically 1 by 4 inch boards nailed vertically with the wide face of a board facing the street side of the house and overlapping the edge of the adjoining. If you choose to install channel siding vertically be sure to bevel cut the ends and install so water is directed to the outside.

Painted siding 1x10 channel rustic lap cedar. This is particularly important for vertical installation. Tando roughsawn cedar single features random mill saw marks and a long subtle grain for a clean classic look with 6 inch exposure.
